HWA and Other Fun Stuff!
Hello my friends! What a glorious Monday. Okay, so Mondays by nature are rarely glorious, but I find this one to be at least acceptable. School has started up again in my neck of the woods, and though the kids are groaning-I myself am rejoicing at rediscovering some semblance of a schedule. Speaking of schedules, I have started what is to be the final story for Ad Nauseam and hope to have moved on from the writing portion to the editing and rewriting portion by the end of the week. 🙂 I am just giddy about this.
The journey toward my first short fiction collection has not been easy, and it’s nowhere near over-but I can see a light at the end of the tunnel. Almost there. It’s a mixed feeling. Relief is first and foremost, but there is also some fear there. Done. That word seems so final. When it’s done, I actually have to put it out there for judgement. When it’s done, I can no longer find things I don’t like that need changing. When it’s done, it will be my first book, something I can never get back. I think it will turn out just fine and am excited to hand it all over to Stan for the final formatting and proofreading, but soon there will be no turning back. Print is print. Done.
I counted and I have written twenty original stories (not all for Ad Nauseam) over a little less than six months. That’s twenty separate concepts that I have birthed, reared and graduated in less than half a year. I am really looking forward to moving on to my first novel. It’s a lot of work of course, but the idea of working on only one concept for awhile strongly appeals to me.
I have also met a lot of great people during this process that I hope will continue to be friends for a very long time. If you are reading this, then you are probably one of them. I want to thank you all for your support and helping to encourage me along the way. You are all great friends, both old and new. Rockstars-every damned one of you!
Saturday morning I received notification that I have been accepted to the Horror Writer’s Association at the Affiliate (think junior) level. I am now in the company of greatness, belonging to an association that claims Stephen King and almost every other horror writer of note from the last thirty years among their members. This has been a dream of mine for a very long time. It’s all very unreal to me. Some of the more cynical people might shake their heads at my excitement over this achievement, but I have stated from the beginning that I never want to lose my enthusiasm about this whole process-so far I haven’t. What a wonderful year I’ve had, and I have all of you to thank for it. THANK YOU. Maybe next week I will return to posts that have less to do with me and more to do with what pisses me off and scares me, but this week I am too happy. May you all have a fantastic week.
